Cartagena

After a leisurely breakfast and yoga at the hotel, we set out for a tour of the Totumo mud volcano.
This unique experience is certainly one that stimulates the five senses and will provide you with a lasting memory! Upon arrival, we access the top of the volcano by a rustic wooden staircase. Once on top, plunge into the warm mud (which is said to have 'miraculous effects”) and enjoy the healing properties. The volcano is surrounded by numerous lagoons that provide a beautiful panoramic view of the area. After bathing in mud, we walk down to the Lagoon of Totumo, dip into the water and get gently, naturally clean again. Once back down on level ground enjoy lunch before we transfer back to Cartagena to freshen up before continuing on a historic city center walking tour.
During our walk, visit many historical sites including the Plaza de San Diego, the Plaza Fernandez of Madrid, the Park Bolivar, the Plaza de los coches and the Plaza Santo Domingo. After our city tour, the rest of the evening is yours to explore at your leisure.

Day 4

Cartagena

After morning yoga and a leisurely breakfast, we head out to Palenque de San Basilio for a day of wonder and learning! Today will take you to the so-called 'corner of Africa' in Colombia. This town is a reflection of the difficult reality of most Afro-descendants in Colombia, it’s a bastion of culture and history and It is the only survivor of the 12 palenques formed on the slopes of the Montes de María at the beginning of the 17th century. Slaves who managed to escape once brought to America, followed the legend of Benkos Biohó, founder of Palenque. Music and a formidable defense strategy led him to officially become the first free people of Spanish America in 1713. Tradition, historical pride and the Palenquero language live and thrive to this day.
After our walking tour we arrive at the central park of the village and partake in language and musical discover and get to appreciate the musical genius of the students of Batata school. Once our serenade is complete, we head back to Cartagena for an evening at leisure.

Day 5

Cartagena

The charm of the city of Cartagena is in its location in front of the Caribbean Sea. What better way to enjoy the city and its surroundings than in a luxurious motorboat or in a fully equipped catamaran to live a nautical adventure without equal.
The tour begins with transportation to the pier where your captain and an assistant await you with the boat ready for a day of sunshine, blue waters, and good music. Once the engines are turned on, we will leave the bay of Cartagena bordering the Fort of San Fernando de Bocachica, and then make a panoramic tour of the 27 islands that make up the Islas del Rosario Natural Park. Here we can make stops for lunch or explore the coral reef with snorkels. We suggest ending this tour with a stop at Agua Azul or at Cholón Cove, where we will have the opportunity to get off the boat and enjoy the crystal clear shallow water. Once arriving back at the hotel, partake in optional sunset yoga with the group before enjoying the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 6

Cartagena

After yoga and breakfast, the remainder of the morning is at leisure to enjoy the hotel amenities and relax. After lunch, we venture off for our fully immersive Cartagena cuisine tour.
On this experience we learn to prepare traditional Colombian cuisine and of course taste along the way. By the end, our goal is for you to be able to return home with not only a wonderful understanding of why food plays such a huge role in Colombian culture, but for you to be able to dazzle future dinner party guests with a Colombian style four course meal!
The Bazurto market is a traditional market offering fish, meat, fruit, clothing and is as important in Cartagena as the La Popa Convent or the Castle of San Felipe. It is a very traditional market, barely visited by tourists. We can buy food or traditionally prepared Colombian dishes or just enjoy the local market of Cartagena in the early hours. Let this “underground” part of Cartagena enchant you; it is ideal for an adventure. We will walk through a maze of alleys, where the tour guide will introduce you to all kind of fruit, herbs, vegetables, fish, seafood and meat. There are also a spice market and natural healing pharmacies.
Gastronomy is an important part of the local culture and the Cartageneros are proud of their Caribbean cuisine. Apart from tasting it, what would be better than learning how to prepare seafood, coconut rice and other specialties of Cartagena´s cuisine? The cooking class takes place in a colonial house in the city center or in Getsemaní. The Chef will give us a presentation about the ingredients before showing us how to prepare typical dishes. The class takes about three hours. Afterwards, we will eat together.
